Thorner Financial Services began 24 years ago when I stepped out as an Insurance Broker. Prior to that I was Human Resources and Sales Manager for Norwich Union for 9 years, and before that I had 20 years in various management positions with Colonial Mutual Life. I recall the first conference I ever attended. It was over 40 years ago. The guest speaker said something that really struck a chord with me do not worry about the dollars, look after the people and the dollars will look after themselves. I have tried to live by that little saying ever since. It is something I share with my staff as we work together, putting the needs of our clients first, every day in all we do. It is the base line for how we treat people; as a person, never as a number. Today, we are a team of eight, working with a wide range of clients largely in Upper Hutt and Wellington. It is the personal service that makes us good at what we do. We get to know our clients very well, and support them to achieve their financial goals through mortgages and investments, and to manage risk through personal, business and general insurance. And whenever they need to make a claim, we are there to support them to get the best result from their policy. Going the extra mile is quite literally what we do. We travel the miles it takes to retain a client and to provide personal financial advice in whatever shape or form is needed. It is called good old-fashioned service in my books, and it is made up of little but important things, like turning up on time, doing what you say you are going to do, finishing what you start and always saying please and thank you. I have found that doing the little things consistently makes a big difference.
