Creating a Professional Development Plan Online

Creating a Professional Development Plan Online

Continuing Professional Development (PD or CPD) is a hot topic for all financial advisers!

Professional Development takes all forms today – from the traditional face-to-face professional meetings, workshops and Conferences right through to new digital forms such as; audio ‘podcasts’, video-casts (think YOUTUBE) and webinar or webcasts - and importantly online articles, blogs and the latest research.

But when was the last time you sat down and spent two or three hours thinking about what YOU really wanted to upskill in?  Maybe refresh a familiar topic, research a major new area for your advice business, learn a new technical trick or two or maybe just catch up with what your colleagues are doing.

Like most things in life – it’s much better with a bit of planning!  We think you deserve to invest a few hours into your own (professional) development!  After all – it won’t happen by chance.

As you know the current Code of Conduct requires AFAs to have a Professional Development Plan (PDP).  However it is highly likely all adviser will be required to have a Plan for 2019.  Financial Advice New Zealand has a key object of upholding the highest of professional Standards - therefore when we put together the Member by-laws, it was considered best practice that all our Members have a PDP!

So if you haven’t got one yet – why not draft one up online using the tools in your Members area on our website?  You can always go back and edit, amend and add to it.

In this webinar we’ll talk through:

  • The steps to consider when putting together a RELEVANT PDP to keep up your skills, knowledge and abilities (competencies).
  • We’ll look at the definitions of ‘structured’ CPD and where to look for material that may interest you.
  • We will demonstrate how to logon to your Member’s area and check out your CPD log and CPD Summary
  • How to ‘self-record’ CPD
  • How to add or amend an online PDP
  • Finally we’ll look at the current (and likely future) 'knowledge, skills and competence' compliance requirements – in case you get a visit from the FMA monitoring team!
