A training programme involving a two day workshop and one e-module, designed to equip advisers with the knowledge and skills to consult, analyse and implement effective solutions to manage the financial risks in businesses with multiple owners as a result of the loss of key human capital.

BACKGROUND

Many SME businesses are owned jointly between individuals who each have specialist roles within the business. The business is often a key asset for each person and is often also an important source of their personal income. This interdependence can expose the business and the owners to financial risks which result in a reduction in their wealth. The uncovering of the risks and structuring of the risk programme to protect the business and its owners requires specific knowledge and skill.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The outcomes this learning programme is designed to achieve are that the participants:

  • Understand and can articulate the service proposition to a businesses with multiple owners
  • Have the knowledge of how to conduct consultations with the owners to uncover the situation, problems and needs of the business in respect of the owners and key people
  • Understand the total risk management solution required to create certainty for owners when shares need to be bought and sold due to an event of death or disablement
  • Understand the financial risks that larger businesses face through the loss of a key person and know how to undertake key person risk analysis on a going concern basis
  • Can identify business debts, the nature of the guarantees and securities provided by owners and address these risks in relation to the Business Ownership structure
  • Understand how to identify owners remuneration and to structure the personal loss of income
  • requirements to protect the income each owner derives from the business
  • Have the knowledge of how to identify and match insurance solutions to the financial risks
  • Understand how to create a risk plan and present the plan to a business owner
  • Understand how to present a business case for financial underwriting

LEARNING PROGRAMME

The learning programme is made up of two elements. The first is online pre-workshop learning to provide core technical knowledge and the second is a facilitated workshop.

Element 1 – Completion of 1 pre-workshop e-module*  Business Ownership Protection

*If the Microbusiness programme has not been completed there may be a requirement to complete 5 e-modules

  • Presentation of financial risks to an underwriter

Element 2 - $675 plus GST Per Adviser

This is a Financial Advice New Zealand accredited CPD event of 16 structured hours.
